General Information

The name SUKHAVATI comes from the sanscrit
and describes a pure land.

Nestled along a shallow and gentle atlantic ocean which in its low tide uncovers up to 200 meters of white sand beach and natural pools with pristine waters.

A region that fascinates with its marvelous and almost virgin beaches and a still well preserved atlantic rainforest that almost touches the sea.

An interesting fact : studies conducted here by the Botanic Institute of New York found one of the highest biodiversity of wooden trees in the world . More than 450 species per hectare.

30 km north we find Itacare a very little and very romantic fishing village which is as beautiful as wellknown Buzios 20 years ago . Also in the north is and about an hour walk away we find Serra Grande a pintoresque rural village.

By plane:
Departing from the airports of São Paulo and Salvador more than 10 daily flights serve the airport of Ilheus operated by TAM.

Flight times:

São Paulo - Ilhéus : 2 hours

Salvador - Ilhéus : 40 minutes

Transfers from the airport of Ilheus to Sukhavati are offered on comfortable airconditioned vans, or taxis and take about 30 minutes. (You may also rent a car at the airport. Please refer to Reservation page for rates ).

Access by car:
By car you access on highway BR101 coming from Trancoso exit : Itabuna and drive straight towards Ilheus. Where the road ends is a sharp turn right and another left . Take the left turn and drive towards the end. You should see a Shell Gas station on your right . On this red light you turn left again and keep going straight. Before the roundabout you should have turned right after the sign Praia do Norte / Itacare. Drive over the bridge and on the next roundabout left. Here you are on BA001 driving towards Itacare. Drive until green km mark 31.7 and exactly on this mark you turn right towards the ocean and you are here !

Coming from the north or from Salvador on BA001 exit : Urucuça. Drive straight until entering the northside of Ilheus. About 300 meter after the first roundabout turn left following the sign Praia do Norte / Itacare. Drive over the bridge and on the next roundabout left. Here you are on BA001 driving towards Itacare. Drive until green km mark 31.7 and exactly on this mark you turn right towards the ocean and you are here !

Access by boat:
By boat you find a deep seaport in Ilheus from where you have easy access by land (see above). There is also a port in Itacare although shallow waters make it only accessible during low tide. Work is underway to deepen this port.
